Who Needs a Schedule

I think I’m almost caught up on sleep now. What a weekend trip we had!

We started out our journey to DC Thursday afternoon. Our flight was at 6:08PM from Memphis. Even though we left Tupelo before 3:30 we were running late to check-in and get to the gate. As we are driving down HWY 78 toward Memphis, around Olive Branch we started driving through a lightning storm. Not really thrilled about it but it wasn’t raining, yet. Then came the downpour! I was smart enough to check our flight to see if it had been delayed yet since it was a downpour and lightning (cloud to ground lightning, haven’t seen that in a long time). Our flight had been pushed back to 7:37PM. At this time I was happy since we were still a good 15-20 minutes away from the airport, plus parking, and checking in. After checking in, we head to the gate to find something to eat (since now our almost 2 hour layover in Atlanta is a 30 minute one). After an hour we go to check the time, it’s been delayed till 8:30 and our flight in Atlanta is delayed till 1 something now too. After waiting longer, our Atlanta flight now has been bumped back up to 11 something and we are in danger of missing our connection to Dulles. We finally board the plan and take off to Atlanta around 9 something. We miss our flight to Dulles (which was the last flight out to Dulles that night), but there was one more boarding as we arrived to Baltimore. I run to the gate and beg them to let us on the flight. Thankfully they did!!! Oh, did I mention it was about 11:30ish or later by this time. We finally arrive to Baltimore at 1:30AM. By the time Laura picked us up and we got back to her place it was 2:45AM.

We had a great time in DC and the wedding was good. Sunday we spent all day sight-seeing. As we are about to head back to Takoma Park (where Laura lives) I check our flights. Guess what! We have been delayed from 9:08PM to 11:15PM. Lovely! I was a little confused since the weather was beautiful. We decide to go ahead and go to the airport on time just in case they bump it back up. Well after arriving at Dulles it was a good thing the flight was delayed because AirTran had only 1 person working the check-in counter and none of the kiosks were working. I think it took a good 30+ minutes to finally get checked in. Oh yeah by this time our flight from Atlanta to Memphis had been delayed till about 2:30AM. As we are waiting, our flight to Memphis has been bumped up and our flight from Dulles has been pushed back even more! It was looking like yet again we were going to miss our flight and have to spend the night in Atlanta. We finally boarded the plane around 11:15PM or later. We sat on the tarmac for 30+ minutes before actually taking off. Once we arrive in Atlanta, thankfully the gates were next to each other. We were the last ones to board the flight (yay we made it!!). We finally arrive in Memphis around 1:30AM. Took us about 20-30 minutes to find the car (I remembered where it was but Brian didn’t think I was right). We arrive at home at 3:30AM. We got about 2 hours of sleep before getting up at 6.

Needless to say, I like late flights but only when I can sleep late the next day (we slept till 11 on Friday after getting in to DC).
