Rant
Why is it that people cannot accept that their life is made by the choices they made, good and bad, and not by others? I have a co-worker who thinks that his life is so horrible because of other people, not the choices he made. It’s the minute things that he gets so worked up over. For example today, he wants to switch from Cellular South wireless service to AT&T service, but our purchasing guy will not let him switch and the company still pay for it. So instead of saying ok, if I want the AT&T service I’ll just leave and pay for it myself, he goes on and gets mad and says it’s not far and that he is always getting the shaft. He said that he was going to use the difference to get a data plan from AT&T so he would have decent internet service at home. (He lives 20 minutes away from Oxford in Ponatoc, lives for free in a house that his parents own and doesn’t have high speed internet.) Instead of seeing that he made the choice to live for free never having to pay rent or mortgage he thinks it’s the service providers fault and our purchasing guy’s fault for not letting him switch. Then again this is the same person who thinks that they can just do the bare minimum at work and expect to get a raise and promoted. Just because you are “smart” doesn’t mean you are owed anything, you have to work for it. I am so thankful my parents taught me that I had to work for things; they are not just handed to me when I want them. I really think this is my biggest pet peeve with people. We all make mistakes and we learn from them. If you don’t like how your life has worked out, then make an effort to change it and stop blaming others for the choices you made which carved your life as it is today.
