I got this off a friend of mine's blog. I loved it and wanted to share with everyone.
“Trust is a positive expectation that another will not—through words, actions, or decisions—act opportunistically. [Opportunistically refers to the inherent risk and vulnerability in any trusting relationship.]
It is the belief in the integrity, character, and ability of a leader.
Trust involves making oneself vulnerable as when, for example, we disclose intimate information or rely on another’s promises. By its very nature, trust provides the opportunity to be disappointed or to be taken advantage of. But trust is not taking risk per se; rather it is a willingness to take a risk. So when we trust someone, we expect that he or she will not take advantage of us. This willingness to take risks is common to all trust situations.”
There are 5 Dimensions of Trust:
1. Integrity – honesty, conscientiousness, and truthfulness
2. Competence – technical and interpersonal knowledge and skills
3. Consistency – reliability, predictability, and good judgment
4. Loyalty – willingness to protect and save face for a person
5. Openness – willingness to share ideas and information freely
3 Types of Trust:
1. Deterrence-based trust – trust based on fear of reprisal if the trust is violated
2. Knowledge-based trust – trust based on the behavioral predictability that comes from a history of interaction
3. Identification-based trust – trust based on an emotional connection between the parties
