The pain of beauty

This morning I have been putting in pain to make myself "pretty". I have yet to understand why we females put ourselves through all the pain of beauty. I started my morning with a brow/lip wax. I have been doing this for years and it has yet to get any less painful. I will say that the ripping of the wax part does not hurt as bad as the tweezing. I don't know why, but I have never been able to stand tweezing. I cannot make myself to get another bikini wax. The first and only time I did, I thought I was going to die. It didn't help that I wore a skirt that day. Sigh. Every time I go get a wax, I start thinking of all women do to make themselves "pretty". We spend hours getting our hair done, waxing, dieting, exercising, shaving our legs (yes this is one of my least favorite things to do.), etc. all for what? Don't get me wrong, I love getting all dolled up for a night out or an event, but the daily maintenance does get old.

Have you ever thought that if a man had to do just half of what we do each day, they would change they standards? I do not think a man could suffer through the pain we do just to be acceptable to men and society.

This morning I rolled out of bed, glanced at the mirror, said to myself, "Good enough," put on the pants that I threw in the floor last night and biked to school.

How are you?
