I'm finally feeling up to blogging about my trip to NY last week. Normally I dread these trips, but this time I was excited. The account manager for my client was going with me so we were planning on getting up to NY as soon as we could to do a little shopping in the City.
Our flight was at 6AM Monday morning--which meant getting up at 3 AM to leave Oxford by 4:15AM at the latest. For all of those who know me well, know I need my sleep. So for this little trip, I went to be at 8PM Sunday night. I should said I was asleep by then, I was in bed before that. I did make it up on time and was there a little early, since I need to go to the ATM.
(Short rant about this. Sunday I was getting all my stuff ready and running errands, one of those happened to be going to the ATM. Well, guess what I find when I go--Out of Order. So I go back to West Jackson and try that one--Out of Order as well. I'm not happy. So I go by Monday on my way to meet R at the office. Yay! It is working. Go through everything and just as it is about to give me my money--"Sorry, unable to dispense money at this time." AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! So guess what, I have no cash for my trip. I should have taken Daddy up on the offer when he asked if I needed some before I left their house.)
Ok, now that I have that out of the way, back to the trip. We were making good time, until R realized our flight was at 6 and not 6:30. We had to cut in line at the ticket counter and the security line. Then run thru the concourses to our gate. I realize I need to start getting in shape NOW. We made it on time and had a second to catch our breath.
We made great time getting to NY. We got there early; off to the City we go. We were on a mission of shopping. The weather was great. I was afraid I was going to be cold, but we brought the warm weather with us. We were going to hit up SoHo and Chinatown this time. We were looking for purses. Here I find out again, I'm out of shape. When I have to walk up 5 flights of stairs with a 15lb laptop on my shoulder. After about 4 or 5 different places, we finally find what we are looking for.
After all day of being in the City, we head to Long Island where we are staying. We learned this time, we will be taking the train next time from the city. When you have to pay $150 for a cab ride from Manhattan to Melville (Long Island), you will figure out what is better. Only good thing out of that cab ride, we both took an hour long nap. I slept very well that night.
Tuesday was all day meetings with the client. We woke to 70 degree weather; we really did bring the weather with us. The meetings all went well and we got a lot accomplished. Dinner plans were with the client at some little Italian place on Long Island. We had time to kill, so we got to go shoe shopping. We wish we had a little more time to do more shopping, but probably really didn't need to. Dinner was, shall we say, entertaining. Another good night sleep for me.
Wednesday we were heading back to Oxford. We were doing great. We made it to the airport early, had NO lines checking in, NO lines in security. This does not happen. I knew it was all too good to be true. Sure enough, we were delayed going to Chicago. All flights going in and out of Chicago were delayed. This was good since we would not miss our connecting flight. We had to sit on the plane an hour before taking off. Once arriving in Chicago, we were delayed about 2 hours. We finally got home (and I mean by the time I step in my front door) at 8:30PM. This is 3.5 hours later than what I was suppose to be home. I did get to start and finish a book while all this was going on.
To end my night, as I'm walking in my door the lights do not come on. Turns out the street was all out. Thankfully it did not last long. Just as I got all the candles lit, the power came back on. So I was able to unpack and relax before climbing into bed.
Sorry for the really long post. I understand these things can get too long to read. I'm just ready to go back to NY, but this time have even more time for fun.
