Flowers in the attic

Yesterday was a very productive day for me.  Brian had to work while I was off so I decided to tackle the attic.  We were suppose to do this Saturday but instead we went to the Stables for lunch and mimosas/bloody maries.  It was the perfect day to jump in and clean the attic.  It was a little chilly when I started at 8:30, but by the time I was done (12:30ish) I was getting hot.  I love our attic due to all the space it gives us for storing items.  I have started to color-code my storage boxes for the holiday decorations so when I go up to get them down I don't have to search through boxes.  This works GREAT!  If you are like me and LOVE to decorate I highly suggest doing this.

This is what our attic looked like when I first got up there yesterday morning.

Everything was just thrown in there and there was a lot of stuff the previous owners left.  Here are some of my favorite items.

attic 003

A shell collection.  (Sorry for poor quality, I took most of these with my phone.)  There was also a bug collection too but it was too dusty on the front to get a good shot.  I mean seriously, who keeps this stuff.

attic 005

Blueprints to our house. We already have one full copy of them and while I was cleaning I found about 5-6 different copies.

 attic 008

An old receiver.

attic 013

Yes, there was a rock collection.

attic 020

A VERY old hot plate.  At first I thought it was some random stove eye until I saw the plug.

 attic 034

A knitted doll.  It  looked more like a gingerbread man.

 attic 037

A box full of old light fixtures.  I’m guessing these are the old ones that they replaced.  Not sure why they kept them.

Other items included, a box of old high school gradation invitations, textbooks and bible commentaries (they were Methodist), letters from Ole Miss from the late 60s about admission and rush; which by the way both were CHEAP; wall paper, shutter doors; from when the kitchen opened into the living room; OLD Christmas lights, curtain rods, a box of papers; looks like old school papers haven’t gone through it yet, an old copy of the Declaration, and a box full of plastic flowers. Oh, for those who do not think that plastic bags do not disintegrate, they do.  I’m not saying we should use them, but there was several plastic bags that were nothing but pieces.

Here’s what the attic looks like now.  All this is our stuff that is neatly organized and placed.

attic 038

Here is all the crap the previous owners left and needs to be thrown away.

Next on my list is to go through a few boxes that are up there to see if anything can be thrown away and put them in plastic boxes so they will not ruin (as much) and go through the guest closet and see what needs to be put up in the attic.

The shell collection and bug collection would be a hit in Savannah. In fact, there is a store here that has a bug collection for sale for hundreds of dollars!

You have got to be kidding!!! Maybe we need to clean them up and bring them with us and see if we can't sell them to a store. :)
